Countess of Rosslyn awarded BEM in New Year Honours

The Countess of Rosslyn has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) in the New Year’s Honours, for services to charity, in recognition of her long association with Rosslyn Chapel Trust.

Lady Rosslyn has been a voluntary Trustee of Rosslyn Chapel Trust, which is a registered charity, since it was established in 1995, and has chaired the Trustees’ Management Committee since 2007.  She has been instrumental in steering the highly significant conservation project at Rosslyn Chapel and complementary project to improve visitor facilities with the opening of a new visitor centre in 2012.

An art historian by background, Lady Rosslyn has also contributed significantly to the appreciation and understanding of the Chapel, as co-curator of an exhibition at the National Gallery of Scotland in 2002, presenter of TV documentary ‘A Treasure in Stone’ and author/co-author of several publications about the Chapel.

Lady Rosslyn said: ‘This is a wonderful recognition of a great team achievement at Rosslyn. 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the Rosslyn Chapel Trust, so to be included in the New Year’s Honours list this year is particularly significant and exciting. I would like to thank everyone who is, or has been, involved in preserving this special building for future generations to enjoy.’

Ian Gardner, Director of Rosslyn Chapel Trust, said: ‘As we begin the Trust’s 25th anniversary year, it is great to see Lady Rosslyn’s huge contribution marked with this national honour. We all send congratulations on this achievement and, of course, look forward to her close involvement continuing in the years ahead.’
