Rosebank House, built as the dower house for Rosslyn Castle, was the birthplace of Hector McNeil, poet, author and songwriter in 1746.
The house was requisitioned by the War department during the Second World War and was demolished in 1960.
Remains of the garden are now within the boundary of Roslin Glen.
The carpet factory, on the site of a former bleachfield, leased by Richard Whytock and later renamed Henry, Widnell and Stewart Ltd.
Hawthornden Castle is located high above the River North Esk.
It was formerly the home of the poet William Drummond of Hawthornden (1585 – 1649), who completed his own restoration of the building in 1638 (no public access).
